Siamo nel luglio del 1544 e l’armata del corsaro ottomano Khayr al-Din Barbarossa mette sotto assedio le coste dell’isola d’Elba. Il corsaro sta cercando il figlio del suo generale, Sinan il Giudeo, tenuto in ostaggio dal principe di Piombino. Il suo scopo però non è quello di salvare il giovane ma carpire il segreto che custodisce. Il figlio di Sinan è infatti l’ultimo depositario di un mistero risalente ai tempi di Gesù e in grado di minare le basi della fede cattolica.
Il Rex Deus però è stato occultato da secoli e ritrovarlo non sarà per niente facile. Iniziano così le tribolanti avventure del giovane che, seguendo un’antica pista di indizi lasciata da un monaco templare, e tentando di sventare il complotto della Loggia dei Nascosti (intenzionata a mettere le mani su quell’antico segreto) si ritroverà a dover fare delle scelte che lo porteranno al ritrovamento della misteriosa reliquia.

A great thriller by Marcello Simoni, also known for “Il mercante di libri maledetti” (The Merchant of Cursed Books), “La taverna degli assassini” (The Tavern of Assassins), and “L’abbazia dei cento peccati” (The Abbey of a Hundred Sins).
We are in July 1544, and the army of the Ottoman corsair Khayr al-Din Barbarossa besieges the shores of the island of Elba. The corsair is searching for the son of his general, Sinan the Jew, who is held hostage by the Prince of Piombino. However, his goal is not to save the young man but to extract the secret he guards. Sinan’s son is, in fact, the last custodian of a mystery dating back to the times of Jesus and capable of undermining the foundations of the Catholic faith.
Yet, the Rex Deus has been hidden for centuries, and finding it will be no easy task. Thus begins the tumultuous adventures of the young man who, following an ancient trail of clues left by a Templar monk, and attempting to thwart the plot of the Hidden Lodge (intent on seizing that ancient secret), finds himself having to make choices that will lead him to the discovery of the mysterious relic.
